Claude's Fight is Over
New Update: May 2012
Claude

On May 28th 2012- Memorial Day- our beloved husband and father passed away quietly at 9:50 AM. His long five year struggle with ALS ended with a seven day decline with respiratory failure and becoming nonresponsive throughout this time. Hospice was present to help us through this event and our good friend Sherri who prayed for Claude and our family. This made things bearable but still gut wrenching for Sue, Dan, and myself. We know he is in a better place, with a whole new body… totally functional and he’s speaking too!!! Thank you to all who have prayed and kept us in your thoughts.

Much love to all our family and friends.
Pat, Sue, and Dan

From the Book: In Time of Caregiving
by Robert Hamma

A Changing Relationship

I miss the way we were together
before illness took center stage,
making you the sick one,
and me the well one.

It's harder to laugh now,
to be spontaneous or silly.
We've had to become more serious,
with so much on our minds.

I look forward to easier times,
but I pray that these hard times
will somehow draw us closer,
and teach us new ways to trust.

Despite all this mess,
we are still together,
still needing each other,
still caring for each other.

"We who sometimes drown in words could afford to learn that sometimes the deepest relationships are built without them." -Unknown

If you are able and willing to continue supporting the ALS Foundation of St. Louis in their reaching out to PALS and their families, we invite you to donate directly to the headquarters in St. Louis.  Please indicate Claude H. Gregory Walk to D'Feet ALS on your contribution memo.  (ALS Association St. Louis Regional Chapter 2258, Weldon Parkway, St. Louis, MO 63146-3206)
If you are a regular walker, please, dedicate and think of Claude on one of your "daily, weekly, monthly walks".  Please keep us all in your prayers and thoughts as our struggle with ALS continues.

We hope you are all well and that life is good....may the "wind always be blowing at your back".

With much love and blessings to all,

Claude, Pat, Sue and Dan

Quotes for Comfort

Healing:

A Gift of Self
At the end of life
when restoring health is no longer possible
Healing becomes more
than just the relief
of pain, suffering, and emotional distress.

 During this challenging time
Healing manifests on the purest level—
an extension of the soul
a reflection of the spirit.

 Real Healing is
an authentic expression of caring and love,
an aide in accepting a life drawing near,
helping a person discover a calming peace
and a place of serenity
on the journey leading to transition.

 Healing becomes…
A cheerful smile
An open ear
A gentle touch
A warm embrace
Taking the time to listen, to be, and share a part of yourself.

The greatest gift one can give
may be the ability
to walk with a person
provide them with grace,
strength and courage
on their path to transition
…and then let go
